DESCRIPTION:A French Impressionist & a French Realist: Caillebotte & Tissot\, led by Tim Stimson. \nTim is a cultural and art historian specialising in 17th and 19th century art and society\, who has also practiced professionally as a painter and ceramist. Participants from previous years have found Tim’s retreats enjoy his engaging approach and delivery.  \nIn this course\, we shall explore the art of James Tissot focussing on the ‘comedy of manners’ in England and France\, and Gustav Caillebotte’s unique depiction of modern Paris and society. Both responded to Baudelaires’s challenge of depicting modern life\, but very differently.
