SUMMARY:Heart & Soul Singing Retreat I
DESCRIPTION:Tutor:  Keely Hodgson \nCombine singing in harmony with rest\, nurture and inspiration. No previous singing experience\, or the ability to read music\, is required. A varied repertoire of songs and rounds are sensitively taught using call and response. \nKeely Hodgson is a composer and natural voice practitioner. She has worked as a music specialist in primary and special school settings and leads a number of community singing groups\, including Ben Rhydding Community Choir. She is committed to sharing the joy of singing with others and helping those who have not sung before to discover their unique voice. \nThe second Heart & Soul Singing Retreat in our 2019 programme is from 11-12 October.

SUMMARY:Recorder Players’ Workshop I
DESCRIPTION:Tutor:  Terry Smurthwaite \nEnsemble playing in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere\, this workshop is aimed at experienced adult players who ideally\noffer two instruments and are able to swap between them. You should have the ability to hold your own part in a group\nas well as good sight-reading skills. Expect a wide variety of interesting music and technique tuition\, as required. \nContact Pauline at paulinewelch.moorfield@gmail.com for further details. Bookings should be made through the Hall. \nTerry regularly conducts Society of Recorder Players’ meetings at Leeds\, Bingley and York. He also conducts a group which meets weekly in Ilkley and has recently founded and conducts The Rombalds Recorders\, a group set up to perform early music. In addition to bringing a wide range of music\, he is also able to offer advice on the techniques of ensemble playing and musicianship.

SUMMARY:Literature Appreciation I - Poetry from Wales
DESCRIPTION:Tutor:  Hugh Parry \nA weekend sampling poetry by Welsh writers from medieval to modern times. Dafydd ap Gwilym (in translation) to Gillian Clarke\, with a doctor or two\, a clergyman or two (yes\, a Thomas or two\, of course!). There may even be a Jones or two. Come and meet the ‘Celtic fringe’ – they are not all wild and woolly (though some are)\, and they speak your language – with great brio. \nHugh Parry has offered adult education classes in literature for over 30 years. Although loyal all his life to Shakespeare\, he has over the years given courses on a diverse range of topics\, including detective fiction\, utopias\, ghost stories\, Cowper\, Swift and R S Thomas.
