SUMMARY:Birdwatching for Beginners in Wharfedale
DESCRIPTION:THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED \nThe Birds of Garden\, Woodland & Moorland \nLeader:  Chris Bradshaw \nJoin us on a relaxed birdwatching break aimed at people new to birdwatching\, or those wishing to learn a little more and enjoy commoner birds in a tranquil location.  We will have a programme of birdwatching walks around the gardens\, Strid Wood\, and the moorland of Barden and Grimwith\, which will focus on learning how to identify and understand more about the life histories of resident and migrant birds in the area. \nThere will also be plenty of opportunity to experience one of nature’s most delightful spring events;  the dawn chorus. \nChris Bradshaw has been working as a freelance ornithologist and birdwatching tour guide for over 20 years. Although frequently to be found overseas\, he runs customised birdwatching trips in the UK and finds great joy in watching and passing on his knowledge of the commoner British birds which first inspired his interest as a child. \nPlease bring binoculars!

SUMMARY:Julian of Norwich - a Study Day with Joyce Simpson*
DESCRIPTION:THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED \n‘within listening distance of the silence we call God’ \nTutor: Joyce Simpson \n‘What seek ye?’ or ‘What do you want?’ are the first words Jesus utters in St John’s Gospel.  Julian’s reply is direct and firm: ‘God of your goodness give me yourself’.  How does Julian\, an anchorite in 14th century Norwich\, challenge and support pilgrims in the 21st century?  Just as from the window of her cell Julian gave comfort and counsel to the burdened and perplexed\, so many have found that to spend time in the company of her book\, The Revelations of Divine Love\, is to find strength for the journey through life. \nJoyce Simpson\, retired Head of Humanities at Leeds Trinity University\, for many years taught medieval literature to undergraduates\, and has a particular interest in Julian of Norwich\, whose world like ours today was marked by civic conflict\, insecurity and rapid change.  We will examine both Julian’s writings and her contemporary context in a quest to discover for ourselves the truth of her insight that ‘Love was his meaning’. \nArrival at 10 am for Holy Communion at 10.15 am.  The price includes coffee\, lunch\, afternoon tea and evening meal. \n*There is the option to stay overnight on 11 May\, subject to availability.
